Archerfield Walled Garden calls itself “a fabulous Taste, Shop and Explore experience in the heart of East Lothian”. The indoor attractions include a garden cafe, a food market, a gift shop and a bar. Dogs are welcome in the bar (serving food from the cafe) and the gift shop. The outdoor attractions are the real star of the show here in my eyes. They have “amazing trails, wonderful running routes, a willow walk, a magical fairy trail, and of course the walled garden”. Dogs on a lead are welcome in all outside areas. With free admission and parking, this is very much a Blog on a Dog recommended attraction. We are lucky enough to live within a 5 minute drive and we plan to visit often.
The Walled Garden
The Walled Garden is fun even for someone without green fingers like me. There are plenty of photo opportunities if that’s your thing, including benches, doors, a well, logs, willow tunnels and gorgeous planting.
There are a number of trails, but the main two are the fairy trail and some walking, biking and running trails. The fairy trail is a major attraction for families with children. It is a lovely trail through woodland with tiny little fairy homes for you to find, remember to collect a fairy trail quiz from the food market so you can tick them off as you find them.
The walking trail includes several attractions including: 2 big photo frames, a wishing tree (you can buy ribbons from the shop), willow benches, woodland animals carved out of wood, willow churches and lots more.
