Audrey and I visited The Hive on a snowy day at the end of February. I paid £8.90 for soup, a scone and a pot of tea.

The Hive is a licensed eatery right in the heart of beautiful Stow on the Wold in Gloucestershire. I went in for lunch, but it also has a great reputation for its breakfast menu, in addition to being well loved for coffee and delicious homemade cakes.
Dog Friendly Score
Dogs are allowed in the front area at The Hive. Even though I sat near to the front door and visited during the ‘beast from the east’ snowstorm, it was very warm and cosy. There is a jar of dog treats (we didn’t get offered one, but equally didn’t ask) and several signs welcoming dogs. There may well be a dog bowl for water, but I didn’t spot one. The front area of The Hive is spacious, with plenty of room for dogs not to have to be squashed under the tables.
Food and Drinks at The Hive
I was staying at The Old Stocks Inn, just around the corner. If my room rate hadn’t included breakfast I would have come here, as lots of reviews mention it’s a great breakfast spot.
I chose the soup of the day (spicy cauliflower) with a cheese scone for my lunch. It was a freezing day so I opted for a pot of tea alongside. The soup was delicious on such a cold day, but the star of the show was the cheese scone. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the best I’ve ever had.
The cakes all looked amazing, and I’m sad to say I didn’t have one this time. I will not be making that mistake next time I find myself at The Hive.
With excellent free wifi, nice comfortable seating, welcoming staff and a lovely ambience there are plenty of reasons to like The Hive. With the quality of the food on offer, it’s easy to see why this place gets rave reviews.
There are plenty of fabulous walks that start or finish in Stow on the Wold, like this one and The Hive would be perfect for a pre or post walk feed.
