Apologies I don’t have a Pawfect Weekend interview for you this week, we should be back on track for next week. I do have a review of a cafe that has featured in 2 Pawfect Weekends so far:
The Tyninghame Smithy made it into both mine and Caitlynns’ Pawfect Weekend, despite the fact that at that time dogs were not allowed inside. Amazingly, since my last visit they have changed their policy and dogs are now welcome inside. Happy days! My visit for this review was when dogs were still outside only. Guess I will just have to go back and eat more cake. All for the sake of you guys of course.
I visited the Tyninghame Smithy with Audrey and my Dad in April 2018. We paid £8.60 for a cake and hot drink each.
- Dog Friendly: 8/10 (remember, this is a score for outside only).
- Free Wifi: No
- Service: 8/10
- Food/Drinks: 9/10
- Value for Money: 8/10
- Blog On A Dog Approval Score: 9/10
The Smithy is in Tyninghame, a picture perfect village in East Lothian. Set back from the Main Street, lined with idyllic cottages, it’s almost like you’ve gone back in time when visiting the Smithy. A few minutes drive away is Tyninghame Woods and beach (Ravensheugh Sands). Join a walk and a visit to the Smithy together and you’ve got a ‘pawfect’ match. This time we visited after a trip to Seacliff, which is a few miles down the road.
The Tyninghame Smithy is a cafe and gift shop in one. All the usual lunchtime items are on the menu, but I think they have built their stellar reputation thanks to their fabulous homemade baking.
Dog Friendly Score
Dogs are only allowed outside at The Tyninghame Smithy, however there is a real effort to make them welcome. There are dog bowls and a huge jar of treats for your grateful pup, as well as a pile of blankets for you on cooler days. Whenever I have been there are always lots of dogs with their owners in the courtyard.
The courtyard is a real sun trap, as well as being enclosed on three sides which helps keep any wind away. This is Scotland after all. It just is a gorgeous setting, and even though only being allowed out here limits visits to warmer days, it always feels such a treat to come and pass the time here.
Food and Drinks at the Tyninghame Smithy
Soups, sandwiches, quiches and daily specials all feature at the Smithy, but I have to admit I go for the cakes! They always have a big selection on offer, and they are not shy with portion size. For you, my dear readers, I have tried a few different cakes so I can give you an informed review. I’m very professional like that. I can tell you that all of them have been well received!
In case you haven’t realised, I love this place. The service is always warm and welcoming, and the vibe is so relaxed. There isn’t any dedicated parking, however the Main Street is so long that there will always be a space. Let me know if you’re planning trip to the Smithy – Audrey and I will meet you there!
